The Sand at the End
I had, like, a pretty clear idea of what this was going to be. You work for the Nightmare Department and each night you try to override a teenage girl's dreams so she can happily integrate into the automated underground society. This is not that game.
If the original intended premise of the game sounds interesting to you I recommend KA Tan's DREAM NO MORE.
This game is pretty confusing so here's a dramatis personae of dramatic personas (in order of appearance)
Elena: That's you. She was a teenage internet meme. She wonders if people are getting tired of hearing her say that. After running away from her intoxicating life with Picasso and spending a year on a mysterious island with an irritating stranger, her best chance of finding a new life is with an even more mysterious job offer: to infiltrate and alter people's dreams.
Simon(e): Current head of something-or-other at the Agency of Narrative Intervention. Elena's new boss. Very particular and self-mythologising.
Anna: Receptionist at the Nightmare Department with a long history. She's pretty self-mythologising too, except she actually has the mythology to back it up. I guess it's more like Anna is Elena's boss and Simone is Anna's boss and Jack is Simone's boss. See, it's all in a hierarchy. You may wonder where Vav fits in.
Jennie: A teenage girl who dreams of another world. Elena is meant to stop her.
Picasso: Elena's exgirlfriend. Was also a teenage internet meme, but more Star Wars Kid than Numa Numa. She's not doing very well.
Jack: The Manager of the Agency, or one of them at least. Has some serious god complex. To be fair, pretty much is a god at this point. You'll find out why one day.
Vavinne: The Wanager, who thinks this is ridiculous, you are ridiculous, and is well aware that she herself is no less ridiculous. That's the point. It's supposed to be funny.
Jem: Globetrotting journalist recovering from a controlling relationship with her former boss Scott, now on the way to Dissland in what will turn out to be a world-shaking rescue mission. She's not actually in this game. But you can imagine.
